Madison, Wisconsin might not be the first destination that comes to mind when you think of romance, but that doesn’t mean the isthmus doesn’t have a charm.
Whether you’re making Valentine’s Day plans or just want to spice up date night, there are plenty of options around town to entertain you and your partner (or you and your besties, because friend dates are important too!). From restaurants and coffee shops to hikes and arcades, here are Madison Minutes readers’ favorite local date spots.
🍸 Coffee and Cocktails
If you’re looking for beverages, check out The Robin Room, Le Tigre Lounge, or Mint Mark for cocktails. If you’re looking for a date with a little more caffeine, I recommend Ledger, Johnson Public House, and Lakeside St. Coffee House. Or for the best of both worlds, head to Forward Craft & Coffee, they have coffee and beer.
😋 Meals for Two
Dinner dates are a classic, they’re a great way to get lost in deep conversation while still having the safety net of a meal to discuss if that conversation can’t break past the surface level. Readers recommend Osteria Papavero, Delaney's Charcoal Steaks, Bar Corallini, Tornado Room, and Nattspil.
But dates don’t always have to mean dinner.
“Sardine on Williamson Street for brunch is a great first date option! Wonderful food, wonderful service and very affordable for brunch.” — Diane A.
🎭 Local Adventures
Sometimes the best dates are the ones that take you on an adventure, here’s where Madison Minutes readers dating adventures have taken them.
“The best date spot is a Willy St. night! Grab dinner at Weary Traveler Freehouse then walk over to I/O Arcade to play each other in a couple rounds of pinball.” — Steve W.
“Go outside on the observation deck at the Capitol in the summer, ideally on Saturday morning to watch the bustling farmer’s market.” — Dana F.
“The Chazen is a great spot to take a date over and over again! There are always new places to explore, art to look at while standing ✨close to each other ✨, and it’s naturally romantic!!” — Mel L.
“Wingra Boats swan paddle boat. Extra credit if you take it out for a full moon paddle.” — Tyler l.
“Our favorite date night begins at Nerd Haven Arcade. After a few hours of playing pinball and games, we walk the 1000 or so feet to Buck's Pizza to put in an order. While we wait for the pizza, we go to Jade Monkey for a cocktail. Twenty minutes later the pizza is done so we pick it up and bring it back to Jade Monkey to enjoy while we play a game or two of darts.” — Sarah U.
“Walk the lakeshore path and then have lunch at the Union.” — Sally A.
